Grounded Theory

Question:

What is Grounded Theory?

Answer:

Glaser and Strauss defined Grounded Theory in 1967 as a way to develop a theory from data rather than to gather data in order to test a theory or hypothesis. This means that qualitative methods such as observation, semi- or unstructured interviewing, dialog etc. are used to obtain data about a phenomenon and that a theory emerges from the data. Theory is derived from what people actually do rather than what it is believed they should do.
